Appearance
Hiram Ronso
Height: 9'11”
Weight: 354 pounds
Build: Typically built for a Ronso, Hiram is extremely tall and muscular. He has a single, long scar on his left forearm that looks like it was inflicted by some sort of animal or beast that left behind a wound that nearly took off his hand.
Skin Colour: Hiram is covered in a coat of short black fur with patches of lighter fur on the shoulders, pectorals, tip of the tail and a long, grey mane.
Hair Style: Hiram Ronso usually wears his hair loose and unkempt. When he needs to look presentable, Hiram binds it into pigtails with gold bands.
Hair Colour: Grey
Eye Colour: Hiram's eyes are a radiant, icy blue most of the time. When you've really pissed him off, on the other hand, his eyes have a tendency to change color, becoming a solid blood red from edge to edge.
Clothing: Usually, Hiram wears nothing but an elaborate loincloth decorated with leather and gold and colored gold and crimson. In addition, he also wears a studded black leather gauntlet on his right arm that does not extend to his fingers, and wraps his left forearm in a bandage, covering his scar. Hiram rarely needs to wear anything else, and other outfits are acquired and discarded as required. A constant feature of every outfit is a gold ring around Hiram's horn.
Weapons
Oathbreaker [Magic] - Oathbreaker is a very large, very heavy hammer made to be wielded in one hand. Its weight makes it extremely damaging, and also extremely difficult for anyone to wield it without Hiram Ronso's monstrous strength. As if that weren't enough, the hammer has been enchanted to release a blast of energy shaped like a spike upon contact that is driven a full foot into the enemy.

Items
Oathmaker [Magic] - A plain gold ring Hiram wears around his horn, it is perhaps one of the single most useful items he possesses, and the most important to him. Despite its simple appearance, the ring is an extremely powerful defensive item, replicating the Ribbon ability of a White Mage to protect against any and all negative status effects.

Class Abilities
Jump: A two-part ability. After using, the user is invulnerable to short-range physical attacks during the opponent’s next post, thanks to the user being airborne. On the first post the user makes after using Jump, they fly down upon their enemy, attacking them with their weapon. [Cooldown: 1 post]
Thrust Kick: The user kicks at the foe dealing heavy damage, sending them flying with the force of the kick. In the case of light, minor NPC foes, it can sometimes send them so far that they are essentially “ejected” from the battle. [Cooldown: 2 posts]
Quake: Cause a roughly 50-foot-diameter area around the target to shake and rupture, unbalancing and damaging enemies. [Cooldown: 2 posts]
Mighty Guard: Casts Protect and Shell on the party. (Requires Quake) [Cooldown: 4 posts]
Custom Abilities
Quests - Hiram Ronso possess the enormous strength of a Ronso, and even more. His reactions are faster, too, and his endurance, and his senses. All of these attributes are enhanced to a point where he could punch through stone walls with his bare hands, or walk naked through a sandstorm, or hear a butterfly's heartbeat.
Promises - Hiram Ronso is constantly protected by five individual hexagonal fields of energy approximately one inch thick and with a one foot radius. The fields can move individually of each other or group together to form larger planes. The fields, or “Promises,” are not under Hiram's direct control and move automatically to respond to any threat, and are able to prioritize and judge based on the severity of the threat. Minor shrapnel will be dismissed in favor of an immediate knife strike, and the immediate knife strike, unless it'll cause a fatal wound, will be dismissed in favor of an oncoming magical blast. If the blast is larger than the two-foot diameter of a Promise, other Promises will immediately move to reinforce it until the resulting field is large enough to block the attack.
The method of defense applied by the Promises is very unique. They do not block, nor do they deflect or redirect, but they counterattack. In response to an attack, they release a blast of force to drive the attack back when the attack is within a three fot distance. Physical attacks are met with a wave of non-elemental physical force strong enough to throw back the assault. Magical attacks, on the other hand, are met with a blast of energy of the opposite element or whichever element is best suited to countering the approaching attack. Though the Promises move automatically to intercept the attack, they can direct their energy blasts in whichever direction is needed, inlcuding every direction at once in their three-foot radius of detection in response to an area attack.
To clarify, the Promises are not 'barriers', no more than a crossbow is a suit of armor, or a gun is a shield. They move instantly to wherever they are needed and deliver their payload. They are entirely immaterial, and can only be depleted once they have used up their counterattack. Each individual Promise has a cooldown of two posts.
Oathkeeper - Hiram Ronso's dedication is so great that not even death can stop him in the fulfillment of his duty. Should Hiram die, his body would unleash a selection of his class abilities whose individual cooldowns would total five posts.. At the end of this maelstrom, Hiram will emerge entirely unscathed, with all his wounds healed, all his cooldowns reset and the power of his Quests ability is doubled for three posts. Oathkeeper is only useable once per thread.
Current Effects of Oathkeeper
Emergency Exit [Jump] - Upon his death, Hiram's body is launched incredibly high into the air, safely out of the range of any melee attack or projectile attack while it regenerates. This happens after the Oathkeeper blast is released. [Cooldown: 1 post]
Repulsion [Thrust Kick] - Upon his death, Hiram's body will release an extremely powerful omnidirectional wave of concussive force at a range of five feet. This wave is just as strong as that of a regular Thrust Kick and can eject smaller enemies from the thread. [Cooldown: 2 post]
Quake [Quake] - Upon his death, Hiram's body will automatically cast Quake. [Cooldown: 2 post]
Mighty Guard - Should Hiram die, his body will automatically cast Mighty Guard on all of his allies in the current thread, himself included.

History
The moment Hiram Ronso reached marriageable age, he left Mt. Gagazet at a run. Nobody ever knew why, and if they did, they weren't telling. He met up with a group of his friends, who met up with a group of their friends, who met up with yet more friends, and eventually the Oathbound were born, a Yevonite mercenary company. They traveled the world, getting paid to do the jobs other people weren't strong enough or brave enough to do. Hiram was appointed their leader, mostly because it was his idea in the first place, and under his command a legion of amateur soldiers and toughs became something resembling a fighting force, famous for the fact that they never abandoned a contract, and they never failed, no matter how high the cost.
It was this reputation that caught the eye of a Guado merchant whose caravan had been lost somewhere in the Bikanel desert. According to the merchant, the caravan had been ambushed by Al Bhed, and he wanted to contract the Oathbound to retrieve the lost cargo. They accepted the contract and set out within the hour, heading for the last known location of the caravan. When they arrived, they found the caravan exactly where it had been, entirely untouched and entirely unmanned. There was no trace of any struggle, and nothing to indicate the presence of machina or airships large enough to mount a raid. The moment the entire company was inside the caravan, the fiends attacked. The merchant had lied.
Utilizing the caravan wagons as makeshift defenses, the Oathkeepers were able to hold their own, but their leader was separated from them in the innitial melee. Bound by their oath to finish the contract, the Oathkeepers were only able to watch helplessly as their leader was carried off by the horde. Hiram managed to destroy them all, but he was heavily injured and lost in the desert. He wandered, but his wounds got the best of him, and he collapsed.
To his surprise, Hiram did not die.
He woke up on a soft pallet that was nearly large enough to house his bulk. His wounds had been bandaged, and he was looking up into the face of an angel with hair like fire, skin like the desert sands, and the lying eyes of the Lost Ones, the Al Bhed. “Where is Hiram?” He asked, hypnotized by those spiral pupils. “You are in Cyhldiyno, stranger,” she spoke with a heavy accent that sent shivers down his spine. “We found you on the brink of death and carried you here so we could treat your wounds.”
Hiram tried to get up, but she pushed him back down easily. He was weak as a kitten. “Let go! Hiram need get back!”
“You're staying right here, mister. I did what I could, but in this state even a short walk could tear open your wounds and kill you.” Her voice held a fierceness that would not be denied, but also genuine care. “You'll go when I say you can go. Now, are you hungry?”
“... starving.”
And that was how Hiram Ronso met Her, whose name he has never shared with a single soul ever since. Despite a rough start, they got along famously, despite several arguments brought on by religious differences, the racism inherent in Yevonism and Hiram's stubborn pride. She taught him how to speak Al Bhed, how to administer first aid, which desert plants were safe to eat and how to survive in the merciless Bikanel sands. Hiram, according to Her, taught Her that “Ronso are thick-witted oxen with more brawn than brains, and the Yevonites are even worse!”
It took time, but Hiram finally managed to get Her to trust him enough to tell him where they were going. “When Home was destroyed, the survivors were scattered. In the event of such a catastrophe, Cid made a back-up plan designed to reunite the Al Bhed. He called it the Silk Road, a secret path littered with oases and havens. Somewhere in each haven is a coded beacon leading the way to the next one. At the end of the Silk Road lies the only oasis in Bikanel large enough to support a large number of people for any length of time. He called it Reaht, and from there we can begin to organize the reconstruction of Home.”
During his travels along the Silk Road, Hiram realized two things:
- Yevon was bullshit.
- He had fallen in love with Her.
Eventually, the caravan reached Reaht, only to find out that they were the first to get there, though there were signs that others were on their way. Not only that, but Hiram was almost fully recovered, and could leave whenever he wanted to. Unfortunately, he didn't want to leave. He wanted to stay. Forever. On the night he realized this, he also decided that he would tell Her how he felt. In fact, he made it halfway back to Her tent when he was hit with a paralysis attack and dragged away under the cover of night. He knew the tactic well. After all, he'd come up with it, and drilled the Oathkeepers in its execution until they could do it in their sleep. It was a tactic designed for rescuing hostages. The idiots thought he was a hostage! As they dragged his limp body away, he could only watch helplessly as the assault began. The Al Bhed were outnumbered, overpowered and caught by surprise. They put up a valiant fight, but it was slaughter.
The moment the paralysis wore off, Hiram went berserk, but it had been a full day since the slaughter at Reaht, and he was too late. He turned on his Oathkeepers and told them exactly what they had done. He forced them to come to terms with the fact that Yevon was wrong. He forced them to face the fact that they were butchers. That day, surrounded by Al Bhed corpses, stagnant pools of blood and ruined machina, the Oathkeepers disbanded, and a new company was formed. They dedicated themselves to protecting those who could not protect themselves, and swore to keep the innocent out of the religious struggle that was sure to come with Sin's recent defeat. They dedicated their name to the memory of their mistakes, and their hope for absolution. The Legion of Reaht.
Though Hiram originally thought She had died in the battle, much to his own mental anguish, a thorough search of the ruins did not yield Her body, and Hiram still clings fiercely to the hope that She is still alive, and has spent his days ever since Reaht searching for Her.
